It’s been some time since my last blog post! Time to catch up and provide an update on my blog and specifically my recent activities regarding Sicilian tailors. I’ve been happily visiting Sicily since international travel became much easier in early 2022. This has allowed me to collect more content for a much needed update to Sleevehead’s Guide to Sicilian Tailors.

The scope of the new edition will be broader. The second edition published in 2017 was focused mostly on Sicilian tailors. Hence, the subtitle was “A Survey of Sicilian Tailors and Contemporary Tailoring Strategies”.

The subtitle for the new third edition is “A Survey of Sicilian Tailors and Artisans”. This means expanded coverage of not only more tailors but also artisans like shirtmakers and shoemakers. My definition of “artisanal” also includes establishments that make, sell or distribute handmade goods or services. This includes antiquarian bookshops, bakeries and restaurants in my travels in Sicily and Italy.

How expanded is the new edition? The 2017 edition was 109 pages long. My current draft of the 2024 edition is almost 200 pages long and I still have a few more sections to complete. This week I finished updating the section of Catania and I will be busy completing new sections on southern Sicily as well as Milan and Rome.

Stay tuned for its publication in 2024!
