AuroChronos Festival, October 5-6, 2019, Łódź, Poland

I’m pleased to be a media partner with the AuroChronos Festival of independent watch brands. As a matter of transparency, this partnership is a non-monetary affiliation designed to support independent makers and brands.

The reality is that we live in a world dominated by corporate brands. The corporatization of brands is here to stay, especially in the luxury goods sector. A relatively small group of brands have become so popular and well-known that they tend to crowd out smaller, noteworthy brands and makers. This crowding out effect is not only psychological but material and economic.

The downside is that relatively fewer independent brands exist and the obstacles to success seem to mount higher and higher. Although large, established brands command my respect, they cannot mean everything to everyone. I think there is a sizable contingent of folks who are interested in brands that resonate more intimately with their own interests and values.

This is why I believe it’s important to support artisanal, independent brands in all categories of menswear. It’s especially important in fine watches due to the increasing concentration of know-how and components in fewer and fewer hands.

For these reasons, I am happy to be affiliated with the AuroChronos Festival founded by Maciej Mazurkiewicz and Paweł Zalewski. The third iteration of AuroChronos will be held October 5-6, 2019 in Łódź, Poland (about an hour away from Warsaw by train), and will feature independent watch brands including Arnold & Son, Carpathia Watches, G. Gerlach, Prim and Schaumburg.

Last but not least, my friend Tim Mureau will be organizing a Gentleman’s Corner at the festival featuring Slovak bespoke tailor Maximilian Mucska, Camiceria Conforti, Vecchio Anseatico ties, Zug shoes and Turms shoe care products.

All in all, this will be a welcome departure from the well-known industry trade shows with the usual suspects exhibiting. Hope you can attend!
